Studio Ghibli Fest continues this month with Laputa: Castle in the Sky.
As it turns out I had forgotten most of the plot of this one and was beside myself as we went into the final act and we hadn’t even seen Laputa yet.
This time around I was actually laughing quite a bit, and right off the bat, I recognized the Pazu is voiced by the same seiyuu as Luffy of One Piece – Mayumi Tanaka. In between laughs this is a journey full of crazy characters, even Pazu’s boss is hysterical flexing his muscles and whatnot. The pirates though are my favorite as they all think of excuses to dote on Sheeta. Very cute and fun, and despite being 30 years old is still top notch animation.
As with the other Ghibli Fest movies, it was presented with subtitles on the theater’s 4k digital projectors and looked great. There were little to no noticeable film grains, and the colors were smooth. As usual, the animation in this movie is off the charts. I’m really enjoying Ghibli Fest and am looking forward to the rest of the films
